@NKUNorseBSB drops game one at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (3-6, 0-0 Horizon League) was defeated in the opening game of a three-game series against The Citadel (7-2. 0-0 SOCON) Friday evening by a final score of 9-5. 
 
AT THE PLATE

  • Manny Vorhees continued to stay hot at the plate to begin this season as he went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, one double and a run scored. 
  • Ryan Glass posted a three-hit day for NKU as well going 3-for-5 with one run and one double. 
  • Noah Fisher drove in a run for the Norse as he went 1-for-5 tonight, and Brennan Gick drew a total of three walks in the contest. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Kyle Klingenbeck (L, 1-2) got the start on the hill today, throwing 5.0 total innings as he struck out three and went on to allow six earned runs. 
  • Bryson Lonsbury came in to provide 2.0 innings of relief, totaling one strikeout, one run and three hits.
  • Nick Noble closed out the game for NKU in the bottom of the eighth with a strikeout, one earned run and two hits. 
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • The Citadel scored first in this nonconference match up as a bases loaded wild pitch brought home a run for the Bulldogs. 
  • The Norse rallied back in the top of the second as John Odom crossed the plate from third on a Citadel balk. 
  • The Bulldogs took back the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run single to right field.
  • Fisher got a run back for the Norse with an RBI double down the left field line to score Glass.
  • The Citadel jumped ahead of NKU by the sixth inning, scoring four unanswered runs on a wild pitch, a ground out and then a two-run home run. 
  • Northern Kentucky began to mount a comeback, ignited by a Vorhees three-run homer to left center field to cut the deficit to just 7-5. 
  • The Bulldogs added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth however to cap off the game one victory. 
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Vorhees continued his hit streak out to nine total games to start the season for the Norse, and currently leads NKU hitting .444 overall. 
  • This is the second series of the season against a SOCON opponent for NKU, with the first being East Tennessee State. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball is back in action at Riley Park tomorrow, Saturday, March 5 in game two of this series against The Citadel. First pitch between the Norse and the Bulldogs is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET).
