Late offensive surge gives @NKUNorseBSB the 8-4 win over The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (4-6, 0-0 Horizon League) picked up the game two victory over The Citadel (7-3. 0-0 SOCON) Saturday afternoon by a final score of 8-4. 
 
AT THE PLATE

  • Ryan Glass went 1-for-5 on the day but his lone hit was one of the biggest for the Norse. Glass drilled a bases clearing double to left center to see three total runs score for NKU in the top of the eighth. 
  • Noah Fisher and Brandon Tucker each posted multi-hit days for the Norse, Tucker who saw one RBI credited to him as well.
  • John Odom also provided a clutch offensive moment with a two-run single to center in the top of the first as well. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Ben Gerl posted another solid outing on the mound this season, throwing 6.0 innings and striking out four. Gerl did allow four earned runs in the matchup but kept the Bulldogs at bay as the game progressed.
  • Noah Richardson (W, 1-0) earned the victory as the tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief for the Norse. Richardson shut down The Citadel, striking out five total during his time on the hill.
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • Odom saw Northern Kentucky jump out in front early with a two-run single to left center field to score both Manny Vorhees and Glass.
  • The Bulldogs managed to get one back in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field. 
  • NKU added to their lead with a fielder's choice from Vorhees that brought home Michael Hall in the process to lead 3-1. 
  • The Citadel took a 4-3 lead over NKU with a three-run homer to right field in the bottom of the third.
  • Griffin Kain provided some phenomenal base running in the top of the sixth, stealing second base which created opportunity for Fisher to score from third on a Bulldog error to tie up the game at 4-4.
  • The Norse reclaimed the lead with a Brandon Tucker single to center to see Odom cross the plate in the top of the eighth. 
  • Glass finally sealed the win for NKU with a three-run double to left center that extended the Norse lead out to 8-4. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball returns to action at Riley Park tomorrow, Sunday, March 6 in the final game of this series against The Citadel. First pitch between the Norse and the Bulldogs is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET).
