CARBONDALE, Ill. – Northern Kentucky was swept by No. 17 Northwestern at the Coach B Classic after a 7-2 defeat by the Wildcats Sunday at Charlotte West Stadium. NKU fell to Northwestern 8-0 in six innings March 4 to start the invitational.
NKU trailed 7-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning and avoided a shutout with a two-run rally.
NKU (8-11) finished the Coach B Classic with a 1-4 mark. It was the Norse's fourth and final multi-team event to start the regular season.

- Madisyn Eads (3-4) went 1.2 innings. She struck out one, walked three, threw a wild pitch, gave up three hits and surrendered three runs (all earned).
- Alicia Flores took over when the Norse trailed by two with two outs in the top of the second. A runner poised on third subsequently stole home. Flores allowed four hits and four runs (all earned) in 2.1 innings pitched.
- Lauryn Hicks came in for Flores in the top of the fifth and finished out the game. She struck out two, walked two, gave up a hit and denied the Wildcats another run.
At a Glance
- Northwestern peppered the Norse with runs, starting in the top of the first when Rachel Lewis walked, stole second and reached third on a throwing error. Jordyn Rudd brought her home with an RBI-single.
- NKU broke up the shutout in the top of the seventh when Maggie Lacer singled and was replaced by pinch runner Charly Koehler. Megan Lenhart drove in Koehler with a home run to left field and made it a 7-2 game.
- NKU had four hits compared to Northwestern's eight. Wildcats pitcher Danielle Williams (9-1) struck out 11.
Next Up
The Norse play Tuesday at Saint Louis and Wednesday at Bellarmine before hosting their first series March 11-12. NKU welcomes Oakland for three games.
