@NKUNorseBSB Sweeps Penguins

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (11-18, 6-5 Horizon) completed the sweep of Youngstown State (10-22, 3-6 Horizon) in the series finale by a final score of 9-7 on the road. 
 
AT THE PLATE

  • Ryan Glass had himself a day, going 2-for-5 with three runs scored, one RBI, and a ninth inning solo homer that sealed the win for the Norse.
  • Brennan Gick, Liam McFadden-Ackman and Griffin Kain all totaled two-hit days for the Norse in this conference victory. All three totaled at least one RBI as well.
  • Gick continued to stuff his stat sheet throughout the game with two RBI, one run scored, one walk, one double and a stolen base.
  • Lucas Gulczynski provided a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs driven in. 
     
ON THE MOUND
  • Tyler Murphy started on the bump for the Norse, only totaling 0.1 inning after allowing two runs and one walk. 
  • Blaine Walters relieved Murphy for only 0.1 of an inning as well, dealing two walks during his time on the mound. 
  • Kaden Echeman (W, 1-5) came on to provide relief from the NKU bullpen, picking up his first collegiate win of this career, throwing 4.1 total innings. Echeman finished his day with two strikeouts and allowed two earned runs and three walks.
  • Nick Noble was next up out of the pen for the Norse, tossing 2.0 innings and went on to strikeout two while allowing one earned run on two hits.
  • Andrew Mulhern finished the game out for NKU, throwing 2.0 innings of his own, earning his first save of his collegiate career. Mulhern allowed zero runs and only one hit in his 2.0 innings of work, along with striking out a game-high three batters. 

AROUND THE HORN 
  • The Norse struck first once again as Brennan Gick singled to left field to bring home Glass for the 1-0 lead. 
  • YSU quickly found an answer for NKU in the bottom of the first, with an RBI ground out and taking the lead after stealing home. 
  • Northern Kentucky created some separation in the top of the fourth after a Gick RBI double down the left field lin, a Liam McFadden-Ackman RBI double to right and a Griffin Kain RBI single to right. 
  • The Penguins tied up the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a pair of RBI hits and a wild pitch. 
  • NKU countered with a two-run single up the middle from Lucas Gulczynski to take a 7-5 lead over YSU.
  • The Norse tacked on another run in the seventh after Ryan Glass grounded out to third but brought home Manny Vorhees for the 8-5 advantage. 
  • YSU closed the gap in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run triple down the right field line to trail NKU 8-7.
  • NKU sealed the game off with a Glass solo homer to left center field for the 9-7 lead and the Norse went on to complete the sweep of Youngstown State. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky Baseball continues to be road warriors, as the Norse head to Morehead State for a nonconference tilt on Tuesday, April 12 with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. (ET).
