@NKUNorseBSB Beats PFW in Walk-Off Fashion

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (13-19, 7-6 Horizon) took down the Mastodons of Purdue Fort Wayne (9-23, 6-8 Horizon) in walk-off fashion in by a final score of 5-4. 
 
AT THE PLATE

  • Zack Minton had himself a huge day going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run scored and one home run. Minton's homer was the first of his collegiate career as well. 
  • Manny Vorhees chipped in two RBI for NKU and when 1-for-5 on the day, which included a walk-off, two-run single to seal the Norse victory. 
  • Noah Fisher finished the afternoon going 1-for-3 with one double and one runs scored. 
     
ON THE MOUND
  • Kyle Klingenbeck got the start for the Norse today and when 6.0 total innings in a solid overall outing. Klingenbeck totaled nine strikeouts against PFW, while only allowing two hits and three runs. 
  • Andrew Mulhern toss 0.2 of an inning in relief after allowing one earned run, one hit, one walk and totaling one strikeout. 
  • Bryson Lonsbury (W, 3-0) picked up his third win of the season after pitching 2.1 scoreless innings. Lonsbury finished the game recording four strikeouts after facing 13 total batters.

AROUND THE HORN 
  • Minton got the Norse on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a monster three-run home run to left field, which brought home Brandon Tucker and Fisher. 
  • Purdue Fort Wayne scored all four of their runs in the top of the seventh inning after a bases loaded hit by pitch and walk brought in two runs. The Mastodons then took a 4-3 lead after a two-run single to center field. 
  • NKU was not going away quietly however, as Vorhees drove in the game-winning runs with the bases loaded and two outs to see the Norse win the game at 5-4 overall. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky Baseball looks to wrap up the Horizon League series against Purdue Fort Wayne tomorrow, Saturday, April 16. First pitch between the Norse and Mastodons is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (ET) from the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
