@NKUNorseBSB tripped up by Purdue Fort Wayne

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (13-20, 7-7 Horizon) was defeated in the series finale by Purdue Fort Wayne (10-23, 7-8 Horizon) from Bill Aker Baseball Complex Saturday afternoon by a score of 10-5.
 
AT THE PLATE

  •  Brennan Gick led NKU at the dish, going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Noah Fisher totaled one RBI on the day with a solo home run.
  • John Odom drove in a pair of runs this afternoon, going 1-for-4 overall.
  • Manny Vorhees also went 1-for-4 today with one RBI.
     
ON THE MOUND
  • Kaden Echeman (L, 1-6) started on the mound for the Norse, throwing 1.2 total innings after allowing two earned runs, four hits and two walks. Echeman when on to record one strikeout as well.
  • Nick Noble and Michael Bohlen provided a combined 1.2 innings of relief for the Norse.
  • TJ Graves posted the best outing on the hill for NKU, throwing 2.2 total innings, allowing zero runs and only two hits. Graves finished his day with two strikeouts after facing nine total batters.
  • Zach Haigis, Blaine Walters, Drew Switzer and Tyler Murphy combined for the final 3.0 innings for the Norse. 
 
AROUND THE HORN 
  • Purdue Fort Wayne struck first in the top of the first with a two-run home run to center field.
  • The Mastodons continued to tack on runs through the third inning to take a 5-0 lead over the Norse.
  • NKU jumped on the board in the bottom of the third with a Vorhees single to center field to drive in Liam McFadden-Ackman.
  • The 'Dons continued to put runs up in the fourth, with an RBI triple and RBI double for an 8-1 advantage. 
  • Northern Kentucky began to mount a comeback in the bottom of the fourth with an Odom two-run single up the middle. 
  • The lead was cut to just four at 8-4 after a Gick RBI single to right field which saw Treyvin Moss cross the plate in the bottom of the fifth.
  • PFW capped off their scoring in the seventh with a two-run homer to push the lead out to 10-4. 
  • NKU managed to cut into the Mastodon lead in the eighth as Fisher belted a solo homer to left field, which saw the final score set at 10-5. 
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky Baseball returns to action next, Tuesday, April 19, as the Norse travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to take on Butler in a nonconference matchup. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcasted on FloSports/Butler+.
