@NKUNorseSB takes series against Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Northern Kentucky spoiled Youngstown State's senior day with a 4-1 victory Saturday at YSU Softball Field and won the weekend series 2-1.
 
Olivia Pastin made a phenomenal catch, stretching her glove over the left field fence, to save a two-run home run in the bottom of the six inning and the Norse maintained a three-run lead until the game's end.
 
NKU improved to 18-24 (7-11 Horizon League) with Saturday's triumph.
 
At the Plate In the Circle
  • Lauryn Hicks started the game and pitched 2.1 innings. She surrendered four hits, one run (earned), walked one and struck out one.
  • Alicia Flores (5-7) allowed just two hits in 4.2 innings. She struck out two, walked none and allowed no runs.
At a Glance
  • The Norse scored three runs on two hits in the top of the first. Jordan Jenkins singled down the left field line and drove in Jenna O'Hair, who'd been hit by a pitch and stole second on a wild pitch, for the 1-0 lead. After Tatum Biddle walked and Jenkins advanced to second, Olivia Pastin singled and advanced to second on a fielding error. She also advanced to third and collected a RBI when Biddle scored. Jenkins also crossed home plate, giving NKU a 3-0 edge.
  • The Penguins twice loaded the bases in the bottom of the second but were denied a run, preserving the Norse's 3-0 edge. They left three on base then and five throughout.
  • Jordan Jenkins doubled to left center in the top of the third and drove in Jenna O'Hair, who'd singled, for a 4-0 lead.
  • Youngstown State's Megan Turner hit a home run to left center in the bottom of the third to make it 4-1.
  • Olivia Pastin made the key catch in the bottom of the sixth to deny the Penguins a two-run home run the Norse prevailed.
