@NKUNorseBSB Takes Series Over Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – Northern Kentucky Baseball picked up a pair of wins today against the Panthers of Milwaukee Sunday afternoon, with the first game at 9-4 and winning the second at 4-2. The Norse improve to 8-17 overall this season and are currently 3-5 in Horizon League action. 
 
GAME ONE: NKU 9 - MKE 4

AT THE PLATE
  • John Odom had himself an incredible day offensively for NKU, going 5-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and one run. 
  • Treyvin Moss and Brennan Gick each tallied multi-hit days as well with each posting one run scored and an RBI.
  • Manny Vorhees provided a pair of RBI's for the Norse after going 1-for-4 with two runs, one walk and a home run.
  • Griffin Kain and Brandon Tucket each totaled one run driven in a piece as well to help secure the NKU victory. 
     
ON THE MOUND
  • Kyle Klingenbeck recorded his best outing of the season today, throwing 6.0 totaling innings and allowing only one earned run. Klingenbeck also totaled a season-high eight strikeouts to help shutdown the Panthers. 
  • Bryson Lonsbury (W, 2-0) closed out the game for NKU to pick up the win, tossing 3.0 innings of scoreless baseball while striking out one and only allowing one hit as well. 
     
AROUND THE HORN
  • Milwaukee jumped ahead to a 4-0 lead through three innings against NKU as a three-run double surged the home squad to an early advantage.
  • Northern Kentucky got on the board with a Vorhees solo shot to left center to cut into the MKE lead.
  • The Norse took full control of this game in the top of the eighth, totaling eight runs against Milwaukee to hold a 9-4 lead. During this inning NKU saw big hits from Gick, Odom, Kain and Ryan Glass. Both Moss and Tucker would be hit by pitches with the based loaded to bring home a run and Vorhees drew a bases loaded walk as well. 
 
GAME TWO: NKU 4 - MKE 2

AT THE PLATE
  • Ryan Glass went 1-for-4 in this second game of the day, but his one hit made all the difference, a two-run homer to give NKU the lead and eventually the win.
  • Liam McFadden-Ackman provided a solid 2-for-4 game, totaling two RBI along with stealing one base.
  • Griffin Kain and Manny Vorhees each totaled two hits against Milwaukee in game two. Kain went on to total a stolen base as well. 
     
ON THE MOUND
  • Blaine Walters started on the hill for the Norse, throwing 1.0 inning to start this conference contest. Walters faced five total batters, allowed one hit and zero runs. 
  •  Kaden Echeman came on to pitch 4.1 total innings where he struck out four, but allowed two runs on six hits and dealt one walk.
  • Andrew Mulhern (W, 1-0) picked up the win for NKU, totaling 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and struck out four as well. 
     
AROUND THE HORN
  • The Panthers like game one, struck first in the bottom of the second inning with a double to right center field. 
  • The Norse took the lead in the top of the third as McFadden-Ackman singled through the left side of the field to from home Zack Minton and Vorhees.
  • Milwaukee tied up the game in the fifth at 2-2 with an RBI single to left.
  • Northern Kentucky reclaimed the lead with a Glass two-run home run down the left field line and the Norse ultimately took game three at 4-2. 
 
NEXT UP
Northern Kentucky Baseball returns to Highland Heights next as the Norse will host Dayton at Bill Aker Baseball Complex on Tuesday, April 5. NKU and the Flyers will square off from Friendship Field at 3 p.m. (ET).
