HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky Softball (22-27, 11-13 Horizon) split the day against Horizon League opponent Detroit Mercy (5-34, 5-19 Horizon), first falling to the Titans 2-1, and then winning the overall series with a game three extra innings walk-off victory at 6-5.
GAME ONE: DETROIT MERCY 2 - NKU 1
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- The Titans struck first in this conference matchup, with a two-run double to center field in the top of the sixth.
- The Norse posted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh as Maddie Lacer drilled a double to left center field to bring home Hannah Colbert, putting the score at 2-1.
- Detroit Mercy ultimately held on for the victory after a pitching change saw the Norse strikeout and ground out to end the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Alicia Flores (L, 6-8) turned in a solid outing in the circle after totaling nine strikeouts against the Titans. Flores finished the game allowing just two runs, four hits and four walks.
- Maddie Lacer drove in the lone run for the Norse, going 1-for-3 with a double on the day.
- Jordan Jenkins went 1-for-3 against Detroit and added a double to her stat line as well.
GAME TWO: NKU 6 - DETROIT MERCY 5 (9 inn.)
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- Detroit Mercy was on the board first in game two today, with an RBI single to left field in the top of the first inning.
- The Titans extended their lead out to 3-0 in the top of the second after a pair of solo home runs gave Detroit an offensive boost early in this contest.
- UDM tacked on another run in the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to center field to see a 4-0 advantage.
- Northern Kentucky was not going away quietly, as senior Kendyl McKeough crushed a three-run homer to left field cutting the Titan lead down to just 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
- Detroit answered NKU in the top of the sixth with a solo shot to center field to put their up to 5-3 overall.
- NKU countered the Titans just as quick with a Tatum Biddle RBI triple to center field which saw pinch runner Lauryn Hicks score from first base and cut the lead to just 5-4.
- The Norse tied up the game in the bottom of the seventh after a McKeough launched double to center field to bring home Ella LeMonier and put the score at 5-5 overall.
- Senior Jordan Jenkins capped off the extra innings victory with a hard driven ball to shortstop with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth which saw Trinity Robertson sliding across home plate for the 6-5 walk-off win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kendyl McKeough anchored the offense in game two today with a home run, four RBI, one run, two walks and two hits which included a double. McKeough currently leads the Horizon League with 12 home runs this season and leads the conference in total RBI with 34.
- Lauryn Hicks (W, 6-7) provided yet another outstanding pitching performance against the Titans, throwing 7.2 innings in relief for the Norse and picked up the win as well. Hicks finished the day with nine total strikeouts and only allowed two runs and five hits.
- Ella LeMonier and Trinity Robertson each chipped in multi-hit days for NKU in this second contest. LeMonier finished with two runs scored and a stolen base as well.
- Tatum Biddle finished the afternoon going 1-for-4 with a clutch RBI in the bottom of the sixth.

Northern Kentucky Softball will be in action next on Tuesday, May 3 as the Norse remain in Highland Heights for a nonconference tilt against the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky. This matchup is scheduled for a 4 p.m. (ET) start from Frank Ignatius Grein Field.
