@NKUNorseBSB Trounces Penguins, 15-3

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (10-18, 5-5 Horizon) won game number two against Youngstown State (10-21, 3-5 Horizon) on the road by a final score of 15-3. The Norse win the conference series over the Penguins with this victory and will look for the series sweep in the final matchup tomorrow. 
 
AT THE PLATE

  • Brennan Gick turned in a fantastic day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI, and one home run.
  • Liam McFadden-Ackman led NKU with a game-high four hits along with totaling three runs scored, one double and one stolen base.
  • Ryan Glass, Treyvin Moss and Manny Vorhees all recorded three RBI days for the Norse in this conference victory. Vorhees and Moss each totaled one double a piece and Glass added one stolen base to his stat sheet. 
     
ON THE MOUND
  • Kyle Klingenbeck (W, 2-4) picked up his second win of the year in an impressive fashion after throwing 5.0 innings against YSU. Klingenbeck posted a career-high 10 strikeouts for NKU, while only allowing three hits and three runs during the contest. He finished the day facing 23 total batters from Youngstown State as well.
  • Bryson Lonsbury (S, 3) provided another solid outing in relief, earning his third save of the season by tossing 40 total innings for the Norse. Lonsbury finished his scoreless outing by striking out five total and only allowing two hits. 

AROUND THE HORN 
  • Northern Kentucky jumped all over YSU early in this game, with a three-run second inning which featured a Gick solo homer, an RBI double from Brandon Tucker and a Zack Minton sacrifice fly to right field. 
  • Youngstown State countered with a three-run second inning of their own to tie up this Horizon League matchup.
  • NKU blew this game wide open in the top of the fourth, scoring six total runs with three total RBI singles, and a bases loaded walk for a 9-3 lead.
  • The Norse added two more runs in the top of the eighth on a Glass fielder's choice, and the inning began with a defensive error from the Penguins.
  • NKU capped off their scoring in the top of the ninth with four additional runs from a pair of RBI singles from Vorhees and Moss, along with a Griffin Kain sac fly to right field for the 15-3 win.

  • Northern Kentucky Baseball wraps up the three-game series against Youngstown State tomorrow, Sunday, April 10 on the road with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. from Eastwood Field.
