ROCHESTER, Mich. – Northern Kentucky Baseball (16-29, 9-14 Horizon) split the day versus conference foe Oakland Golden Grizzlies (26-24, 15-10 Horizon) dropping game one 5-4, but then winning game two at 9-4.
GAME ONE: OAKLAND 5 - NKU 4
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- Northern Kentucky jumped all over the Golden Grizzlies in the top of the second scoring three scores as Brandon Tucker, Manny Vorhees and Treyvin Moss all knocked in runs.
- NKU increased their lead to 4-0 in the sixth as Griffin Kain singled to right field to see John Odom cross the plate.
- Oakland made their comeback in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring four runs to tie up the game with three RBI singles.
- The Golden Grizzlies then won in walk-off fashion with a bases loaded single to left field for the 5-4 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Treyvin Moss, Griffin Kain, Brandon Tucker and Manny Vorhees all totaled one RBI in this first matchup against Oakland.
- Kaden Echeman turned in a solid outing on the hill, pitching 5.0 total innings, striking out four and only allowing one earned run and six hits.
- John Odom finished the afternoon hitting 1-for-3 with one double, two runs scored and one stolen base.
GAME TWO: NKU 9 - OAKLAND 4
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- Northern Kentucky came out swinging from the start in game number two, putting three runs up on the scoreboard first with a Ryan Glass single to left field.
- Brennan Gick then crushed a two-run home run to deep center field to put the Norse up 3-0 on the home squad.
- Oakland answered with a two-run homer of their own in the bottom of the second to close the gap to 3-2.
- NKU countered just as quickly in the top of the third with a pair of runs with Treyvin Moss scoring on a wild pitch and a throwing error and then Gick knocking in Glass on a sacrifice fly.
- The Golden Grizzlies capped off their scoring in the bottom of the fifth as a solo homer saw Oakland trail just 5-4.
- Gick continued to swing a hot bat in this contest, belting yet another home run to put the Norse up 7-4 overall.
- Northern Kentucky finished off Oakland with two more runs late in the game, first with a Liam McFadden-Ackman RBI double and a Noah Fisher RBI single for the 9-4 Horizon League win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brennan Gick finished game two going 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored.
- Liam McFadden-Ackman went a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with one double, one stolen base and one RBI.
- TJ Graves (W, 1-3) earned himself his first victory of the season after throwing 2.1 total innings. Graves ended his relief stint with two strikeouts, two walks and only one run and one hit allowed.
- Ryan Glass and Noah Fisher earned posted multi-hit days for the Norse and each totaled one RBI in game two as well.
