@NKUNorseBSB ends day 1-1 against Youngstown State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky Baseball (17-30, 10-15 Horizon) split the day another Horizon League doubleheader, this time against the Penguins of Youngstown State (17-33, 10-15 Horizon) Sunday afternoon from the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
 
GAME ONE: YSU 5 - NKU 3

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
  • The Norse struck first in game number one in the bottom of the second against the Penguins with a Brandon Tucker single to left field to bring home Liam McFadden-Ackman.
  • YSU found an offensive answer in the top of the third inning with two solo home runs and an RBI triple to lead NKU 3-1.
  • The Penguins extended their lead out to 5-2 through the seventh inning. Northern Kentucky mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh as Manny Vorhees and Treyvin Moss each drove in runs but YSU ultimately won game one, 5-3. 
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Brandon Tucker posted a solid day going 2-for-3 with one run score and one RBI.
  • Manny Vorhees and Noah Fisher each turned in multi-hit days as well. Vorhees finished with one RBI and Fisher with one double. 
 
GAME TWO: NKU 8 - YSU 0

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
  • Northern Kentucky once again struck first against YSU, as Treyvin Moss ripped up single up the middle in the bottom of the third inning to see Manny Vorhees cross the plate.
  • NKU increased their lead in the fourth with Griffin Kain belted a triple down the right field line to bring in Noah Fisher. Zack Minton followed up with an RBI single to center field and the Norse went up 5-0 by the end of the fourth inning as Vorhees provided a two-run double. 
  • Brandon Tucker took advantage of a Penguin wild pitch to cross the plate for a 6-0 lead.
  • The Norse capped off their scoring in the bottom of the seventh as Tucker ripped a single through the left side of the field to knock in a pair of runs for an 8-0 advantage. 
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Manny Vorhees totaled three hits against YSU in game two, along with adding two RBI, one run scored and one double to his stat sheet. 
  • Kyle Klingenbeck (W, 3-6) picked up the victory in game two after pitching 6.0 scoreless innings. Klingenbeck finished the day with four strikeouts and only allowed three hits in his outing. 
  • Brandon Tucker continued to provide a hot bat for the Norse, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
  • Griffin Kain turned in a solid performance at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI, two runs scored, one triple and one stolen base. 
 
ON DECK
Northern Kentucky Baseball returns to action this Tuesday, May 17 as the Norse will make the quick trip up north to face Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio. This nonconference matchup is scheduled for a 3 p.m. (ET) start as well.
