Oakland hands @NKUNorseSB first loss of #HLSB Championship

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Northern Kentucky Softball (27-28) was handed their first loss of the 2022 Horizon League Championship by the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland (25-15) Friday afternoon by a score of 3-1.
 
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
  • Oakland jumped on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth inning after a bunt brought in a run for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Grizzlies extended their lead in the fifth after an RBI single to center and an RBI double to left pushed the advantage out to 3-0.
  • The Norse did not go down without a fight however, after Sophie Margelot ripped a single to center field to see Jenna O'Hair cross the plate, but the top seeded Grizzlies took the game at 3-1 overall. 
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Lauryn Hicks (L, 9-8) continued to carry the workload in the circle during the tournament, pitching 4.0 totaling innings. Hicks finished the day striking out three, and allowing just one earned run, two walks and four hits.
  • Sophie Margelot ended the day going 1-for-3 with one RBI against Oakland.
  • Kendyl McKeough posted the lone multi-hit day in the matchup, going 2-for-3 with one double.
