HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky Baseball (17-33, 10-17 Horizon) was defeated by the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland (29-24, 18-10 Horizon) Friday afternoon from the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- The Golden Grizzlies started game two like game one, with a home run, this time from Nigh who saw his three-run blast clear the center field wall.
- The Norse got one back in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of mistakes by pitcher Densmore after a balk and a pick-off throwing error saw Treyvin Moss cross the plate.
- Oakland retaliated in the top of the second inning with four more runs, which included another home run to push their lead out to 7-1 overall.
- Northern Kentucky kept chipping away at the Oakland lead first with a Zack Minton RBI ground out and then a Manny Vorhees RBI single to center to put the score at 7-3.
- NKU tied up the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the fourth, first with RBI hits from Moss and Vorhees. Noah Fisher then blasted a two-run homer to deep center field to put the score at 7-7 and give Northern Kentucky all the momentum.
- Oakland however was not going away, taking an 8-7 lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI single. The Golden Grizzlies followed up with a five run sixth inning to extend their lead out to 13-7 as well.
- NKU was not going down without a fight however, as Minton ripped a double off the left field wall in the seventh inning to see both Ryan Glass and Moss cross the plate.
- Fisher once again provided a big bat in the bottom of the eighth, with his second homer of the day to put the score at just 13-12.
- The Golden Grizzlies added an insurance run in the top of the ninth and ultimately sealed the victory at 14-12 over NKU.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Noah Fisher provided an impressive day at the plate with two home runs, two runs and five total RBI this afternoon.
- Treyvin Moss had an incredible game, racking up four hits, three runs and one RBI to help lead NKU.
- Manny Vorhees and Brennan Gick each totaled three hits in this matchup, with Vorhees added two RBI and one run to his stat sheet. Gick tallied two doubles and one run scored as well.
- Zack Minton saw a clutch day at the plate with three total RBI, one double and one run scored.
- Nick Noble turned in a solid day out of the bullpen for the Norse, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings, while striking out one and only allowing two hits.

Northern Kentucky Baseball will conclude the 2022 regular season tomorrow, Saturday, May 21 as the Norse wrap up the series with the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland. This Horizon League matchup is scheduled for noon from the Bill Aker Baseball Complex, and it will also be senior day as we honor Norse Baseball seniors prior to tomorrow's first pitch.
