HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Excellence in their academic endeavors has become a tradition among Northern Kentucky University's student-athletes, and that culture continued in the 2022 spring semester as the Norse registered a department-wide 3.38 cumulative GPA.
 
"Our student-athletes here at Northern Kentucky continue to impress us all in so many ways," said Ken Bothof, director of athletics. "I'm extremely proud of their accomplishments this semester. Our coaches continue to embrace the importance of academic success and it's reflected in the academic quality of the student-athletes they are recruiting."

The GPA posted by NKU's approximately 220 student-athletes this spring extends a multitude of trends:

• 22-straight semesters with at least a 3.0 GPA
• 16-straight semesters at or above a 3.2 GPA
• 10-straight with at least a 3.37 GPA

 
Four programs registered GPAs of at least 3.50, led by women's tennis at 3.78. Volleyball (3.58), women's track & field (3.56), and women's cross country (3.53) also reached the mark. Men's soccer registered a 3.46, highest among the men's programs.
 
A total of 26 Norse student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. Another 69 scored Dean's List recognition with marks between 3.6-3.99 and two student-athletes were named to the Scholar's List. 
 
Four Norse were honored during Northern Kentucky University's yearly academic awards and commencement. Alex Doss of men's golf earned recognition as the Outstanding Undergraduate in Accountancy. Baseball's Proctor Mercer was named the Outstanding Student in the Computer Science Program for Data Science. Elizabeth Rozin of women's tennis was named the Bachelor of Science Business Information Systems Outstanding Senior. Volleyball's Miranda Wucherer earned recognition as the Outstanding Undergraduate in Sports Business and Event Management. 
 
"The academic success we continue to see each and every semester is a testament to the character of our student-athletes, commitment of our coaches to recruiting the best athletically and academically prepared individuals, and to our academic advisors who go above and beyond to assist them," said Debbie Kirch, associate athletics director for compliance and student-services. "It takes a total commitment to academic excellence throughout the athletic department for this level of achievement, and I'd like to thank Alyssa Mathews, Madison Garrott and Rachel Everson for their commitment to the betterment of our student-athletes."
 
At commencement this spring, 41 student-athletes were awarded degrees.
