Men’s Basketball returns to top of Horizon League with OT thriller over Detroit Mercy

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program continued its flair for the dramatic inside Truist Arena this season as the Norse won another overtime thriller over Horizon League foe Detroit Mercy, 78-76 on Sunday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Norse remained atop the Horizon standings, tied with Milwaukee for first place overall, who is also 5-1 in conference play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Marques Warrick continued his climb up the NKU leader board as he finished with 19 points, a season-high six assists, three rebounds and two steals. The standout guard from Lexington, Kentucky now has 1,256 career points, moving him into 20th all-time in school history. He sits just 11 points back of Brian Lawhon (1,267 career points) for 19th all-time at NKU. Warrick accomplished the feat in just 74 games played.
- Trevon Faulkner's heroics sent the game to overtime as he beat the buzzer at the end of regulation with a deep and contested three to tie the contest at 71-71. He chipped in 14 points overall to go with two rebounds and an assist. With his four made field goals, Faulkner ties Chris Wall for 11th all-time at NKU with 507 made career field goals. His two made three's also tied Shannon Minor with 298 career made three-pointers for 11th all-time in school history. - A'lahn Sumler added another big game to his freshman campaign with a season-high tying 12 points, a season-best six boards, along with an assist and a steal. It was his third 12-point game of the season.
- Trey Robinson (eight points, six rebounds), Sam Vinson (seven points, eight rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal), Chris Brandon (seven points, four boards and a block) and LJ Wells (five points, two rebounds and two steals) also contributed for the Norse.
- The Norse finished with 38 points off the bench, their highest total so far this season.
- The game was a back-and-forth affair that featured 11 lead changes and 10 times the contest was tied.
- NKU also recorded 17 points off turnovers and 38 points in the paint. The Norse forced 14 Detroit Mercy turnovers and picked up nine steals.
