INDIANAPOLIS – After a standout showing at the prestigious Live in Lou Classic,
Layla Henderson was named the Horizon League's Women's Freshman Runner of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Henderson finished 21st overall at the Live in Lou Classic, as she blazed the 5K course with a new personal best of 18:27.9 against a field of over 383 student-athletes. The performance beat her old personal record by over 66 seconds and was a 10-spot improvement over her previous race finish.
So far this year, Henderson has posted two-top 21 finishes to go with a 31st-place showing at IUPUI's Jaguar Invitational. The Maysville, Kentucky native is the second NKU student-athlete to earn the weekly conference award, joining
Grace Biddle who was named the #HLXC Women's Freshman of the Week back on September 6 and September 19.
Northern Kentucky will split up for its final race of the regular season with two meets on the docket on Friday, October 13. Some of the squad will head to Peoria, Illinois for the Bradley "Pink" Meet, while a select group of student-athletes will travel to Wilmington, Ohio to compete in the Jenna Strong Invitational.
