Women’s Soccer is Championship bound after PK win over IUPUI

MILWAUKEE – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program is headed back to the Horizon League Championship for the third time in school history after the Norse knocked off IUPUI in the conference semifinal at Engelmann Stadium on Thursday evening.
 
NKU and IUPUI played to a 1-1 double overtime draw before the Norse took home the victory, 4-3 in penalty kicks.
 
Northern Kentucky will now take on top-seed Milwaukee on Saturday, November 4 at 2 PM ET/1 PM CT in the Horizon League Championship. THE BASICS

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Natalie Newman put the Norse up 1-0 in the 63rd-minute off a perfect set up from fellow freshmen Erykah Cornett and Kylie Anderson. - IUPUI scored the equalizer in the 87th-minute to force the match to overtime.
- The Norse and Jaguars played back-to-back, scoreless ten-minute overtime periods to force the match to penalty kicks.
- Lydia Self, Lilly Yordy, Sofia Wilmes and Kylie Anderson all connected for the Norse on their PK attempts and standout keeper Mickayla Kowalski made a diving save on the final IUPUI chance to advance the Norse to the Championship match. - Kowalski made six saves overall for NKU.
- The tally was Newman's third goal of the season (tied for third on the team), while the assists were both Cornett's and Anderson's third of the year, respectively.
- Cornett and Anderson now lead the Norse in points with 11 overall. Each student-athletes has four goals and three helpers on the campaign. - Northern Kentucky and Milwaukee are no strangers to one another in the Horizon Championship. It will be the third meeting between the two programs in the conference title match all-time. The Norse won the Horizon crown, 3-2 in 2016, and the Panthers took home the top prize in penalty kicks (0-0 game, 4-3 in PKs) in 2020.
