HUNTINGTON, WV – The Northern Kentucky softball program found itself on the wrong side of a 13-1 non-conference decision to host Marshall at Dot Hicks Field on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Marshall entered the contest as one of the best teams in the nation and is currently ranked tied for sixth in NCAA Division I softball in total wins (28) to go with being slotted fifth in the country in winning percentage (.903).
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 1, Marshall – 13 (5 innings)
LOCATION: Dot Hicks Field – Huntington, West Virginia
RECORDS: NKU 8-19 (3-1 HL), MU 28-3 (4-0 SBC)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- Jena Rhoads and Charly Koehler led the Norse attack on offense. Both finished 1-for-2 at the dish. Koehler notched NKU's RBI on the day while Rhoads added a run scored for the Norse.
- Lauryn Hicks posted an effective 1.1 innings of relief in the circle as she allowed four hits and one earned run to go with a strikeout.
- Even with the setback, Northern Kentucky is tied for second in the Horizon League at 3-1 in league play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
- Marshall got out of the gate fast and didn't let up in the contest. The Thundering Herd got one run in the bottom of the first, five in the second and seven runs in the third to seal the victory.
- NKU was able to push across a run in the top of the fifth, but it was too little, too late as Marshall picked up the shortened, non-conference win.
