Softball records series win in Wednesday victory over IUPUI

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky softball program recorded the series win over Horizon League foe IUPUI with a 2-1 victory over the Jaguars inside Frank Ignatius Grein Field on Wednesday afternoon.
 
With the big two wins over IUPUI in the clash, NKU moved right back into the race for the Horizon League Championships as the Norse now sit in a tie for sixth at 6-7 in a jammed-packed league standings. It was the second Horizon series win for NKU so far this season.

FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 2, IUPUI – 1 (7 innings)
LOCATION: Frank Ignatius Grein Field – Highland Heights, Kentucky
RECORDS: NKU 11-26 (6-7 HL), IUPUI 10-23 (6-7 HL)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Maddie Lacer (1-for-3) and Sydni Barnes (0-for-1, two walks) drove in runs for the Norse.
- Ella LeMonier (1-for-3, one walk) and Trinity Robertson (1-for-2, one walk) also recorded hits for NKU in the contest.
- The Norse's runs on the day were scored by Jena Rhoads, Megan Kincer and Brielle DiMemmo.
- Lauryn Hicks was the standout in the circle as she posted a complete game that featured just two hits, one run (earned) and a season-best 10 strikeouts. It was Hicks's second win of the series against the Jaguars.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- NKU got on the board first as Lacer drove in a run to make it a 1-0 game in the bottom of the third.
- The runs kept coming in the inning with a bases loaded walk by Barnes to push the Norse edge to 2-0.
- IUPUI answered back with a run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead in half at 2-1.
- The Norse kept the Jaguars off the board for the final three frames to seal the 2-1 victory.
 
WEDNESDAY'S "OPENER"
The two programs got the afternoon started with a one-inning matchup as the Norse and Jaguars had to finish play from their suspended contest on Tuesday night. IUPUI ended up taking the opener by a 7-3 score.
 
NEXT UP 
It's back to the road for the Norse as NKU heads to Detroit Mercy to take on the Titans on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15. Friday will feature a single game at 3 PM ET while Saturday will consist of a doubleheader that gets underway at noon. All three contests can be watched live on ESPN+.
