Men's Basketball's win streak ends in 3OT thriller at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Penn. — Northern Kentucky men's basketball hit the road and returned to action on Sunday, as the Norse came in to the matchup at Robert Morris on Sunday in the midst of a five-game winning streak. 

Following three overtimes, the Norse fell to the Colonials 97-93 at the UPMC Events Center, marking the first loss in Horizon League play this season for NKU.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • LJ Wells led NKU in scoring, finishing with a 19 point, 13 rebound double-double. Wells was 7-15 from the field, and grabbed two steals as well. 
  • Both Randall Pettus II and Trey Robinson finished with 17 points, with Robinson grabbing six rebounds before fouling out in the first overtime. 
  • Sam Vinson finished with a near triple-double, posting 12 points, a career-high 14 rebounds, and seven assists. 
  • Keeyan Itejere grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds and blocked four shots in the loss. 
  • Josh Dilling finished with 14 points, four boards and four assists. 
  • NKU outrebounded RMU 65-52, grabbing 24 offensive rebounds in the loss. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Northern Kentucky and RMU battled back and forth during the first half, and NKU trailed 36-32 at halftime after a late run from the Colonials. 
  • NKU had a 10-0 run of their own early in the second half, and led 52-47 at one point. RMU took the lead late in the second half, but Trey Robinson scored back-to-back buckets with less than a minute remaining to send the game to OT. 
  • Robinson fouled out in the first OT, but the Norse continued to battle. With 8 seconds left, Josh Dilling split a pair at the foul line to send the game to a second OT. 
  • LJ Wells hit a triple with 2:05 remaining in the second OT, which marked the final bucket of the period. 
  • In the third overtime, the Norse could not overcome a late offensive rebound from Robert Morris, as the Colonials hit two free throws to ice the game.
