Baseball’s win streak snapped at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky baseball program will look to get another streak going as the Norse saw their 11-game winning streak snapped with a 20-15 mid-week setback to Eastern Kentucky in a non-conference battle on Tuesday evening.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Treyvin Moss had a huge game at the plate with a 3-for-5 outing that included one home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
- Mitch Wood also had a big contest with a 2-for-5 performance that also featured four RBI and two runs scored to go with a base on balls.
- Peyton Lane added a 1-for-3 showing with a homer, three RBI and a run scored.
- Zack Minton chipped in a 1-for-5 afternoon. He recorded a RBI and a run.
- Cleary Simpson went 1-for-2 at the dish with a team-best three runs scored and two walks.
- Liam McFadden-Ackman (two runs, three bases on balls), Tyler Shaneyfelt (one run, one steal and three walks) and Brennan Rowe (two runs scored, one base on balls) also chipped in on another huge game for the Norse offense.
- Aaron Boster, Karter Hann and Casey Maniglia all threw a scoreless inning on the mound for NKU.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northern Kentucky jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
- Eastern Kentucky quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 game.
- NKU answered right back with a six-run top of the sixth to jump back ahead 7-1.
- Once again, the Colonels had a response as they dropped 12 runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake a 14-7 lead.
- Both teams added two runs in the fourth to push things to 16-9.
- Northern Kentucky made their move with five runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 16-14 ballgame.
- EKU got an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth and pushed another three across in the sixth to give the home team a 20-14 advantage.
- The bats started to cool off for both sides, as NKU was the only team to score over the rest of the contest with a single run in the top of the eighth as Eastern Kentucky closed out the 20-15 win.
 
NEXT UP
It is back to conference play for the Norse as the squad hits the road for a Horizon clash with Youngstown State in a series that gets underway on Thursday, March 28. First pitch is set for 5 PME ET from Eastwood Field.
