CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Northern Kentucky softball program once again found itself in a highly-contested game, but the Norse were ultimately on the wrong side of a 2-1 extra-inning decision to host Charleston Southern at the CSU Softball Field on Monday evening.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 1, Charleston Southern – 2 (8 innings)
LOCATION: CSU Softball Field – Charleston, South Carolina

Olivia Pastin went 1-for-2 at the dish with one RBI and a base on balls.
-
Sydni Barnes added a 1-for-2 outing with a run scored. She too drew a free pass.
-
Trinity Robertson chipped in a 1-for 3 showing with a walk.

Lauryn Hicks took a tough-luck loss in the circle as she went seven-plus innings with eight strikeouts. She allowed just five hits and two runs (only one earned).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a pitching duel as neither team could get anything going through the first four innings.
- The Norse finally broke through in the top of the fifth as Pastin sent a shot up the middle for a RBI single that plated Barnes to give NKU the 1-0 lead.
- Charleston Southern didn't make its mark until the final inning, when they finally pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to send the games to extra.
- Northern Kentucky got the first chance and moved a runner to third in the extra frame, but NKU couldn't get her around to score as the game moved into the bottom half of the inning.
- The Buccaneers were able to capitalize in the eighth with a single run to escape with the 2-1 victory.
