Baseball falls in walk off fashion in thrilling mid-week battle at Xavier

CINCINNATI – The Northern Kentucky baseball team fell victim to their second straight walk off game as Xavier was able to escape with a 7-6 victory in a non-conference clash between local rivals on Wednesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Liam McFadden-Ackman (1-for-3, one home run, one run scored), Colton Kucera (2-for-5, one run) and Bryce Miller (1-for-2, one walk) both finished with two RBI on the day.
- Cleary Simpson (1-for-4, one run, one base on balls), Brennan Rowe (one walk, one run), Jake Altman (one run scored) and Ryan Kilpatrick (one run) all came around to score for the Norse, respectively.
- Both Simpson and Kucera also added a stolen base.
- Ryan Pehrson (two scoreless innings), Nick McClanahan (one scoreless frame, two strikeouts), Karter Hann (one scoreless inning) and Andrew Mulhern (one scoreless frame) all had strong outings on the mound.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Norse got on the board right away in the top of the first as McFadden-Ackman sent a two-run blast over the left field wall to make it a 2-0 game.
- Xavier responded right back with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame to flip things to 4-2.
- Northern Kentucky tied things up in the top of the fourth off a two RBI single up the middle by Miller to knot things at 4-4.
- NKU took the lead in the top of the sixth off another two RBI hit, this time by Kucera, to give the Norse a 6-4 edge.
- Once again, the Musketeers answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie things once again at 6-6.
- It took until the bottom of the ninth, but Xavier was able to push a run across to escape with the 7-6 win.
 
NEXT UP
The Norse hit the road for an important Horizon League series at Milwaukee that gets underway on Friday, April 26. First pitch is set for 3 PM ET and the conference clash will be played in front of a national audience on ESPN+.
