HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A day after getting run-ruled, the Northern Kentucky baseball program returned the favor with a dominating 10-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne in a Horizon League clash at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Tanner Gillis led the Norse with a gem on the mound. The graduate pitcher went all seven innings with nine strikeouts and just one hit allowed. The outing was his first shutout of the season. With the standout showing, Gillis tied for the Horizon lead in wins and now leads the conference in opponent batting average (.223). He is also third in earned run average and tied for third in punch outs (65).

Treyvin Moss had a day with a 3-for-4 effort that included a home run, three RBI, two runs scored and a steal.

Mitch Wood added a strong showing with a 2-for-3 outing that featured a homer, two RBI, one run and one base on balls.

Liam McFadden-Ackman also blasted a dinger with a 1-for-3 contest. He chipped in one RBI, two runs scored and a base on balls. The senior took over the Horizon League lead with his 19th homer of the season.

Cleary Simpson (1-for-4, one RBI, one run),
Tyler Shaneyfelt (1-for-4, one RBI) and
Brennan Rowe (1-for-3, one RBI, one run scored) all added runs batted in for the Norse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Norse got the scoring started right away in the bottom of the first as Moss and Wood sent solo shots over the wall to make it a 2-0 game.
- Northern Kentucky struck again in the bottom of the fifth as this time McFadden-Ackman left the building with another solo homer to push NKU's advantage to 3-0.
- The Norse broke the game open with a seven-run, bottom of the sixth to give NKU a 10-0 lead.
- Gillis and the Norse slammed the door in the top of the seventh to seal the run-rule victory.
NEXT UP
The Norse and Mastodons return for the rubber match on Sunday, May 12. It will be Senior Day for the Norse so fans and supporters will want to make sure they are in their seats by 11:30 AM ET to take in the celebration. Admission to the contest is free of charge.
