Knuewe's equalizer helps Men's Soccer secure draw at Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. — Northern Kentucky men's soccer continued Horizon League play on Saturday night, taking on Detroit Mercy on the road at Titan Field. The Norse and Titans battled to a 1-1 draw after a 90 minutes. 

The result marked the fourth straight draw for the Norse, moving NKU's unbeaten streak to six matches.

RECORDS: Northern Kentucky: 1-2-6 (0-0-3 Horizon), Detroit Mercy: 1-6-2 (0-1-2 Horizon)

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Northern Kentucky registered a season high 18 shots, with four being on goal. NKU held an 18-17 advantage in shots. 
  • Simon Knuewe's 60th minute goal equalized the match after Northern Kentucky fell down early in the second half.
  • Nic Lemen made three second half saves to keep the match tied all the way to the finish. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • NKU posted eight shots in the first half, holding an 8-5 lead in the category after a scoreless first half. 
  • Detroit Mercy took the lead with the opening goal in the 52nd minute, but Simon Knuewe found the back of the net in the 60th minute to equalize the match. 

UP NEXT

    • Northern Kentucky returns home for a match against Horizon League rival Cleveland State.
