Second half surge not enough as Men's Basketball falls at Detroit

DETROIT, Michigan -- Northern Kentucky men's basketball was unable to snap the current losing streak on Thursday night, as the Norse fell to the Titans of Detroit Mercy. 

Shooting woes plagued NKU in the loss, as NKU shot just 19-63 from the field (30.2%) and 4-27 from 3PT range (14.8%). 

NKU has dropped six straight games -- the second longest losing streak of the DI era.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Keeyan Itejere was NKU's best player, finishing with 12 points and seven rebounds while shooting a perfect 6-6 from the floor. Itejere blocked a pair of shots as well. 
  • Josh Dilling scored 11 points and knocked down three 3PT baskets. 
  • Randall Pettus finished in double figures as well with 10 points and three steals. 
  • NKU's starting lineup struggled mightily from the field, finishing 17-50 from the floor (34%). 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NKU and Detroit Mercy battled throughout the first half, with NKU trailing by nine at half. The Norse shot 0-9 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes. 
  • DMU went up by as many as 18 points in the early going of the second half, but a surge from the Norse saw the deficit drop to as low as five points. NKU could not get any closer, falling by 11.
