HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse women's soccer took on Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon, battling the Penguins in a matchup among the Horizon League's best. Both squads entered the match ranking inside the top three in the conference standings, with NKU holding a two-point lead over the Penguins. Northern Kentucky took advantage of the opportunity, scoring two second-half goals to secure a massive victory.

– After YSU opened the scoring with just five minutes remaining in the first half,
Emilie Doersching leveled things at one apiece with a fantastic goal. The senior took a pass from deep in the Norse's half and went the length of the field, beating multiple defenders for the score. It was Doersching's third of the season, and the score of one-all held until the halftime whistle.

Erykah Cornett netted her seventh goal of the season to give the Norse a massive 2-1 lead. The goal marked the seventh of the season for Cornett, with
Meghan Belrose and
Lilly Yordy netting assists, their sixth and eighth of the season, respectively.
– NKU received a penalty kick opportunity later in the half, which was to be taken by the league's points leader,
Lilly Yordy. Her attempt to the lower-left corner was saved, but the fifth-year tapped in the rebound for her seventh goal of the season. YSU scored a late goal, but the Norse held on for the win.
– The Norse won the shot battle 21-15, and 9-8 in shots on goal.
– Despite allowing a pair of goals, NKU keeper
Megan Gessner made six saves in the match, playing a vital role in the Norse win.
– NKU won the corner kick battle 11-3.
