HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse women's basketball announced the signing of 2026 Lafayette Jefferson High School guard Maya Layton on Thursday
"Maya is a strong and dynamic point guard who makes her presence felt on both ends of the floor," said Norse head coach
Jeff Hans. "Her toughness, vision, and competitiveness will make her a great fit for NKU Women's Basketball — we're thrilled to welcome her and her family to Norse Nation!"
Layton is coming off a solid junior season and currently ranks as the fifth all-time leading scorer in Tippecanoe County, with 1,551 career points. Layton has earned a multitude of accolades throughout her young career, including a three-time IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Showcase Invitee, a two-time Midwest Conference first team selection, and first team All-NCC Conference honors, among others. In her first game of her senior season, Layton put up a triple-double. Layton also plays for club team Always 100.
Layton's mother, Dawyel (Jones) Layton, is a former college basketball player herself, playing at Bradley for three seasons from 1989-92. She led the Braves in steals in her final season and earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors on one occasion.
