Northern Kentucky Athletics sets new bar with highest GSR in department history

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Norse student-athletes continue to set new highs, as Northern Kentucky University Athletics again set a new program record for Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and tied its record in Federal Graduation Rate (FGR), as made official by the NCAA's yearly report released this week.

Northern Kentucky registered a 96% GSR, tied for the highest mark of any DI school in the state, marking an improvement of four points from last year's then-program record 92%. In FGR, the Norse combined to post a 72%, the second-highest in the commonwealth.

Every sport program except one was at or above the national average in either GSR, FGR, or both, and all programs posted a GSR of at least 83%.

"These academic records are directly attributed to the hard work of our student-athletes and the recruiting prowess of our coaches and their staffs," said Northern Kentucky Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services & Senior Woman Administrator Sarah Pruess. "Building up our support services has been a priority for our staff, as it elevates our student-athletes' performance in the classroom and in competition. To be the academic leader in the state of Kentucky is a phenomenal honor for our department."

Men's golf, women's soccer, and women's tennis marked the only sports programs to finish with a 100% GSR and a 100% FGR.

Men's basketball, women's basketball, and women's golf all posted a perfect 100% GSR, while Men's Tennis posted a 100% FGR.

In total, ten programs finished at or above the national average in Graduation Success Rate.

Figures released reflect graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in 2018. The NCAA has tracked GSR for more than two decades and releases its findings in a yearly, public report.
