Norse grab signature win over Cleveland State, move into fourth place in Horizon League

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky Women's Basketball earned its biggest win of the 2024-25 season on Wednesday night in Truist Arena, taking down third-place Cleveland State. The Norse now claim sole possession of fourth place in the Horizon League in a race that continues to grow tighter. Northern Kentucky stormed back from a 14-point second-half deficit and tied a program record with 16 made threes in the contest. Another late-game steal from Halle Idowu and game-icing free throws from Noelle Hubert clinched the win for NKU.

NORSE NOTES
- The Norse hit 16 threes, tying a program record set on December 20, 2021 against Wofford. Seven Norse hit a three in the contest.
- Northern Kentucky struggled early, as the Vikings started the game on a 9-0 run. NKU's deficit stayed between 8-13 points throughout the second quarter, as the Norse were able to hang around in the first half but not catch up with Cleveland State in transition. The Norse couldn't buy a bucket in the paint early on, as they hit just one two-point field goal in the first 26 minutes of action.
- Nine first-half threes were one early bright spot, and the Norse kept shooting from beyond the arc after the halftime break. Threes from Blevins, Meredith, Lacy, and Jones in the third helped the Norse cut the Viking lead to five, but Cleveland State bounced back late in the period to take a nine-point lead heading into the fourth.
- NKU started to hit some shots inside to start the fourth, which was crucial for the Norse to get back in the game. After the Vikings took a six-point lead with just under six minutes to go, NKU's defense stepped up and shut the water off for the rest of the game, allowing just four points and one field goal for the final 5:50. The Norse were excellent in team defense down the stretch, fighting for every loose ball and forcing CSU into tough shots. Back-to-back buckets from Idowu down low tied the game at 65, then a massive three from Jaci Jones gave the Norse their first lead of the night. After allowing their only field goal of the final stretch, Idowu sunk a massive pair of free throws to take the lead right back. In the biggest possession of the night, Cleveland State had a chance to win down one with ten seconds to go. Halle Idowu poked away a drive from Mickayla Perdue, and Noelle Hubert then knocked down the game-sealing free throws to secure a massive win.
