Devenport stars as Norse Baseball splits doubleheader with Miami (OH)

OXFORD, Ohio — It was a tale of two games for the Northern Kentucky baseball team on Friday, as the Norse struggled offensively in the first half of a doubleheader before exploding offensively in game two, as NKU and Miami (OH) split the first two of a three-game set in Oxford. 

After leaving 10 runners on in game one, the Norse didn't mess around at the plate in game two, scoring a season-high 19 runs, marking the fifth time in nine games this season that NKU has plated 10+ runs.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - GAME ONE

  • Kaden Echeman took the ball in game one for the Norse and pitched to a no decision. Echeman threw five innings, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk. The righty struck out eight batters. 
  • Out of the bullpen, Shawn Parnell and Carson French combined for 1.2 scoreless innings.
  • In the batter's box, NKU managed just five hits, with the lone run coming on a solo homer by Jake Paulick in the sixth inning. NKU left 10 runners on in the loss. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - GAME TWO

  • Northern Kentucky's offense exploded early in the second game, plating eight runs in the second inning and four in the third. Overall, NKU scored 19 runs on 21 hits, drawing six walks. 
  • Logen Devenport starred for NKU, finishing the game 5-5 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI, and two stolen bases. Devenport was one of seven Norse with a multi-hit game. 
  • Tyler Shaneyfelt finished 3-7 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. 
  • Gabe Mirada finished 2-5 with an RBI. 
  • Jake Paulick had a 2-4 day with three RBI.
  • Josh Williams homered as part of a 3–4, four RBI performance.
  • Sam Bond had three hits and a pair of RBI.
  • Brennan Rowe finished 2-5 with a pair of RBI.
  • Evan Fry picked up the win out of the bullpen. 

UP NEXT

  • NKU has a day off on Saturday before Sunday's rubber match with the Redhawks.
