NILES, Ohio — Northern Kentucky baseball pulled out a gutsy victory on Friday night, as the Norse took down Youngstown State on the road in the series opener.
NKU plated a pair of runs in the eighth inning to win a close one, and now stand just a win away from a key Horizon League series victory.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - PITCHING
- Kaden Echeman took the ball for the Norse and pitched well, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing only a pair of runs on four hits while striking out nine. Echeman took a no decision.
- Shawn Parnell got the win, throwing two scoreless innings out of the bullpen while striking out three.
- Evan Fry picked up his second win of the season with a scoreless ninth.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - BATTING
- Three Norse had multiple hits, led Tyler Shaneyfelt ho finished 2-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored while Jake Altman finished 2-3 with a run scored.
- Shaneyfelt stole a base as well.
- Gabe Miranda had a pair of hits, two walks, and stole a pair of bases in the win.
- Logen Devenport finished 1-4 with an RBI and a walk drawn.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- NKU took the lead in the fourth thanks to Logen Devenport's RBI single.
- Following a YSU homer, NKU trailed 2-1.
- The Norse scored a pair in the eighth, as Tyler Shaneyfelt singled to score Jake Altman before he scored on a passed ball to take the lead.
- Shawn Parnell pitched a scoreless eighth and Evan Fry a scoreless ninth to give NKU the win.
