Baseball scores 16 runs in final four innings, completes comeback in win over Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Northern Kentucky baseball pulled off a massive comeback on Friday, as the Norse rallied from as many as eight down to knock off Purdue Fort Wayne. 

NKU belted six home runs in the win, racking up 19 runs on 20 hits in the win. The Norse scored 16 runs in the final four innings.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - PITCHING

  • Bobby Bartlett got the win for NKU, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings with a strikeout. 
  • NKU pitching combined for nine strikeouts to just three walks. 
  • Evan Fry locked down the game, allowing a pair of runs on four hits in his two innings of work. Fry struck out five batters. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - BATTING

  • Both Logen Devenport and Josh Williams finished the day with four hits and two home runs. 
  • Williams hit a grand slam and a three run homer, finishing the day with seven RBI.
  • Devenport scored five runs, drew a pair of walks, and had four RBI. 
  • Gabe Miranda finished 2-6 with an RBI. 
  • Tyler Shaneyfelt doubled, finishing 3-6 with an RBI and three runs scored. 
  • Jake Paulick provided a spark with a pinch hit home run, finishing 1-1 with three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Logen Devenport hit the first of his two homers in the first, a solo shot that put the Norse up 1-0. 
  • PFW scored eight runs before Tyler Shaneyfelt doubled home a run in the third. 
  • Trailing 11-3 in the sixth, NKU plated six runs to cut the deficit to two. Both Devenport and Miranda were hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Josh Williams launched a grand slam to make the score 11-9. 
  • Williams launched a three-run homer in the seventh inning to tie the game at 12. 
  • Logen Devenport homered in the eighth for the second time in the game, and Jake Paulick hammered a pinch hit three run homer in the same inning to put NKU up 17-12. 
  • Brennan Rowe provided some insurance with a two-run homer in the ninth, and Evan Fry locked down PFW in the ninth to secure the win.

  • NKU looks for a fourth straight win and both a season and series sweep of Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday.
