Norse Softball splits road doubleheader with Detroit Mercy

DETROIT, Mich. – Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball continued their Horizon League season on Friday, as NKU took on Detroit Mercy in a road doubleheader. 

The Norse took a tough loss in game one, but bounced back in game two thanks to a complete-game shutout from freshman pitcher Kyndall Ford and 

THE BASICS (GAME ONE)
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 1, Detroit Mercy – 7
LOCATION: Buysse Field - Detroit, Mich. 
RECORDS: NKU 18-21 (9-6 HL), UDM 10-24 (7-8 HL)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- Stella Wulker was the only Norse to record a hit, as she went 2-2 with a home run and a double. 
- Alicia Flores gave up three runs in the first inning before being pulled for Kyndall Ford, who finished the game with five innings pitched, five hits allowed, four runs, and four walks. 

NORSE NOTES
- The Norse fell behind early, but Stella Wulker helped cut into the Titan lead with a two-run home run in the second. 



- Detroit Mercy put up four runs in the second inning, and the 7-1 scoreline held for the rest of the game. One bright spot was freshman Kyndall Ford, who allowed just two hits and one walk in her final four innings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Inside the circle, Ford stole the show with her first complete-game shutout of her young career. The freshman allowed just six hits and two walks in seven innings, while also fanning four batters.



- At the plate, Jena Rhoads had a great performance, going 2-3 with her first home run since 2023, three RBI, and two runs scored. 
- NKU tallied just five hits total, as Campbell Beatty, Olivia Pastin, and Stella Wulker each singled. 
 
NORSE NOTES
- After striking out eight times in game one, the Norse struck out just twice in game two, leading to a much more efficient offensive performance. The Norse scored six runs for the 13th time in 2025, and are yet to lose when crossing that offensive mark. 
- The Norse bats went down in order in the first two innings, but would get on the board in the third after some chaos on the bases. Marlee Loudermilk, who pinch ran for Emma Ginn after she drew a leadoff walk, got to second on a wild pitch. She would later score on a two-out single from Campbell Beatty, who was out on the play after getting caught in a pickle between first and second. 
- In the fourth, NKU loaded the bases after a hit by pitch, reach on error, and bunt single, and tripled their lead thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies from Brooke Keltner and Brielle DiMemmo. 
- After a one-two-three inning from Ford, the Norse added another run in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Jena Rhoads. Rhoads added the exclamation point in the seventh inning with a two-run jack to right field to really put the game away.




NEXT UP
Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball takes on the Titans in the series finale rubber match on Saturday, set for a noon first pitch.
