Baseball wins sixth straight with comeback win over Oakland Friday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky baseball has now won six straight, as the Norse battled through the rain to topple Oakland in the series opener. 

The Norse plated the game's final two runs to secure a one-run win over the Golden Grizzlies.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - PITCHING

  • Conner Linn finished with a no-decision after throwing 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk. Linn struck out four batters, and battled through the rain to give the Norse a chance.
  • Shawn Parnell threw 0.1 innings in relief with a strikeout. 
  • Aaron Massie for the win, getting the final out of the seventh and throwing a scoreless eighth. 
  • Evan Fry picked up the save with a scoreless inning. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - BATTING

  • Despite finishing 0-4, Tyler Shaneyfelt was key for the Norse, drawing a walk and stealing home in the win. 
  • Logen Devenport finished 2-4 with a run scored. 
  • Josh Williams finished 1-4 with an RBI single. 
  • Braydon Rogers drew three walks and scored a pair of runs.
  • Jake Altman doubled, the lone extra base hit of the day for NKU, finishing 1-3 with an RBI.
  • Brennan Rowe had a pair of RBI on a 1-3 day. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Tyler Shaneyfelt took advantage of a lazy throw to the pitcher from first after a pickoff attempt, stealing home and scoring the first run of the game for the Norse. 
  • Jake Altman doubled to tie the game at two in the fourth before coming around to score on an RBI single by Brennan Rowe. 
  • Oakland plated a pair in the seventh to go up 4-3, but Josh Williams smacked a single to left center to tie the game at four. 
  • Brennan Rowe hit a sac fly in the eighth to give the Norse the lead, and Evan Fry pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up the win.
  • Jake Paulick threw out a potential base stealer at second for the final out. 

UP NEXT

  • NKU goes for the series win tomorrow, with first pitch set for 1 PM.
