NKU Softball swept by Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball suffered a weekend sweep at the hands of Purdue Fort Wayne after dropping both legs of a Saturday doubleheader. After the Norse scored five runs on ten hits in game one, they scored just one run in game two, and didn't record a walk in 14 innings at the plate.

FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 5, Purdue Fort Wayne – 6
LOCATION: Warrior Field - Fort Wayne, Ind.
RECORDS: NKU 21-23 (11-8 HL), PFW 16-22 (12-8 HL)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Norse offense recorded ten hits, but zero walks. Four Norse recorded multi-hit games. 
- Olivia Pastin went 2-4 with a home run and a triple, scoring twice.
- Emma Ginn batted 2-2 with a double.
- Stella Wulker went 2-3 with two RBI. 
- Mack Brow hit a pair of singles, finishing 2-3 with one run scored. 
- Trinity Robertson went 1-4 with a solo home run. 
- Alicia Flores pitched the final two innings and didn't allow a single hit or walk, striking out one batter. 

NORSE NOTES
- NKU struck first, as Stella Wulker drove in Rhoads in the first with an RBI single up the middle. The 'Dons got one back in the bottom half, scoring on an RBI groundout to tie the game at one. 
- The Norse added a pair of runs in the third as Wulker drove in her second game run on a sacrifice fly, and Trinity Robertson hit a solo home run to follow. 
- Purdue Fort Wayne then scored five unanswered runs on freshman pitcher Kyndall Ford, scoring one in the third and four in the fourth as the Mastodons recorded four hits in the frame. 
- NKU fought back in the seventh, as Jena Rhoads brought a run home with a sacrifice fly and Olivia Pastin homered to cut the deficit to one. A two-out single from Stella Wulker put the tying run on base, but Fort Wayne ended things with a strikeout.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brooklyn Ballis pitched all six innings for the Norse, allowing six hits and no walks while allowing three earned runs. 
- The Norse offense had five hits and no walks.
- Stella Wulker batted 2-3 with a double and scored NKU's only run of the game. 
 
NORSE NOTES
- Purdue Fort Wayne took a first-inning lead on a sacrifice fly. The Norse tied things up in the second after Stella Wulker led off the inning with a double. She scored from second on a throwing error, the only run of the game for NKU. The Mastodons took the lead on a solo home run in the fourth inning and added a sixth inning insurance run to secure the sweep. 

NEXT UP
Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball closes out the regular season next week, heading to Lexington for a Tuesday matchup with Kentucky. Then, it's the final series of the season as NKU hosts Youngstown State on May 2 & 3.
