Pastin totals three extra base hits as Norse defeat IU Indy

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – After losing four straight games, Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball looked to get back on track on Tuesday as they started a three-game midweek series with IU Indy.

After struggling early and getting behind 2-0, Olivia Pastin delivered a three-run shot that gave the Norse the lead. Alicia Flores secured the win with a great performance out of the bullpen, pitching 4.2 shutout innings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
- Olivia Pastin had a monster day at the plate, as she went 3-3 with two doubles and a home run, collecting three RBI. 
- Alicia Flores threw 4.2 shutout innings, allowing just two hits and one walk. Flores didn't give up a single hit in the final three innings. 
- Jena Rhoads went 2-3 with a pair of singles and scored a run. 
- Emma Ginn went 1-3 with a double. 

NORSE NOTES
- The Jaguars struck early in the second, grabbing two runs in the gram. IU Indy nearly added more runs as they stranded three runners. 
- The Norse offense remained quiet in the early going, other than a pair of doubles from Pastin and one in the second inning from Ginn. 
- In the fifth, Campbell Beatty and Jena Rhoads hit back-to-back one-out singles, giving NKU their best chance of the day to get on the board. Pastin took advantage by launching one to deep center field, her fifth home run of the season. 
- Flores took over and forced six straight outs – other than a hit batter in the seventh – to seal the Norse victory. A big reason for her game-clinching performance was Flores's ability to coax fly balls, as 13 of her 14 outs came as a product of popups or flyouts.

Northern Kentucky University Norse Softball takes on IU Indy in a doubleheader on Wednesday to finish the series, with first pitch coming at 1 PM.
