Echeman fans nine in relief, Norse take down Raiders

DAYTON, Ohio — Northern Kentucky University Norse Baseball took down Wright State in a Saturday afternoon matchup, as Kaden Echeman shut down the Raiders in five innings of relief.

After a slow start from both sides offensively, the Norse put up five runs in the fourth inning, as the Norse recorded five hits and a walk in the frame. After Aaron Boster limited the Raiders to three runs through four innings, Kaden Echeman came in and locked things up, allowing just one run, two hits, and one walk over five innings, striking out nine batters.

LOCATION: Nischwitz Stadium - Dayton, Ohio
RECORDS: Northern Kentucky: 27-21 (15-11 Horizon) | Wright State: 31-16 (22-4 Horizon)

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - PITCHING

Aaron Boster started for the Norse, throwing four innings of three-run ball. Through his first three innings, Boster had allowed just two hits and no runs, but a three-spot in the fourth saw the Raiders inch closer to tying things up. He finished the day with five hits, two walks, three earned runs, and four strikeouts.
Kaden Echeman relieved Boster in the fifth and had one of his best outings of the year, shutting down the league's top scoring offense with nine strikeouts, tied for his second-highest mark in a single game in 2025. Echeman allowed just two hits, one run, and one walk in the game.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - BATTING

Northern Kentucky recorded eight hits and eight walks on the afternoon.
Gabe Miranda finished 2-3 with a pair of walks.
Nolan Sparks went 1-3 with two RBI, two walks, and a run scored.
Sam Bond finished 2-4 with a run scored and a walk.
Jake Altman batted in two runs with a single, finishing 1-3 with a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both sides took a while to get going offensively, as the Norse didn't record a hit until the fourth inning while the Raiders had just a pair of hits through three.
In the fourth, the first four Norse got on board, with a two-run, no-out single from Jake Altman giving the Norse the lead. A sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position, where Nolan Sparks capitalized with a single to double the Norse lead. Gabe Miranda then singled, which brought home Sparks and gave NKU 5-0 advantage. While the Raiders got three runs back in the fourth with three doubles, the Norse were able to limit the damage and keep the Wright State offense contained.
The Norse added a sixth run in the fifth, as Tyler Shaneyfelt brought home Marcus Harrison on an RBI single.
After walking his first batter of the game, Echeman wasted no time by fanning the next three batters he saw. Echeman struck out two more in the sixth, keeping the Raiders at bay.
Wright State got one back in the seventh, scoring one run on two hits, but WSU's final six batters went down in order as the Norse evened the series.
