MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Northern Kentucky baseball picked up arguably its biggest win of the season on Sunday, as the Norse broke through in the late stages and held on for a one-run win over Milwaukee to win the series on the road.
Sam Bond provided the winner with his pinch-hit, two-run double in the eighth, with Ryan Pehrson providing a clutch performance to pick up his first save in an NKU uniform.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - PITCHING
- It was a bullpen day for NKU, with Bobby Bartlett getting the start and throwing three innings. Bartlett allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out four batters.
- Noah Sackenheim provided 1.2 innings of scoreless work with a strikeout.
- Gerald Hanson got the win, providing two innings of work while only allowing one run. Hanson struck out three.
- Ryan Pehrson entered in the ninth with the bases loaded, no outs and NKU leading by two. Pehrson forced a double play ball for the first two outs of the frame and a ground out to end the game and give NKU the win, picking up the save in the process.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN - BATTING
- Logen Devenport was the lone Norse with two hits on the fay, finishing 2-4 with a stolen base.
- Tyler Shaneyfelt had a hit, scored a run and stole a base in the win.
- Josh Williams drew three walks and plated a run with a bunt single.
- Marcus Harrison finished 1-3 with a two-run single and a sac fly, leading NKU in RBI with three.
- Sam Bond pinch hit for Jake Altman in the eighth and doubled home two runs to give NKU its late lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 1-0, Marcus Harrison gave the Norse the lead in the second with a two-run single before Josh Williams made the score 3-1 with a bunt single that scored Tyler Shaneyfelt.
- After UWM retook a 4-3 lead, Marcus Harrison tied the game with a sac fly in the sixth.
- Sam Bond entered in the eighth and played hero with a two-run double to make the game 6-4.
- Milwaukee loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but Ryan Pehrson forced a double play and a groundout to secure the win.
UP NEXT
