Women’s Soccer Dominant in Horizon League Opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse Women's Soccer opened its Horizon League slate on Thursday evening, taking on the Oakland Golden Grizzlies in the Norse's first match at NKU Soccer Stadium since August 31. The Norse were able to control the match from start to finish, despite Oakland holding the majority of the first half possession.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
– Megan Molner opened the scoring for the Norse, putting in an Emilie Doersching cross with one touch. The goal marked Molner's sixth of 2025, and the second assist of the year for both Doersching and Meghan Belrose. 
– The Norse were able to hold steady for the remainder of the first half, knocking away a few Oakland chances. 
– Everything opened up for NKU in the second half, as Lilly Yordy put in a goal just 90 seconds into the half. It marked Yordy's fourth of the year, who leads the Horizon League in total points with 15. 
– An own goal in the 63rd minute gave NKU a three-nil advantage. 
– Natalie Newman put the cherry on top in the final minutes, scoring her second goal of the season. 
– NKU outshot Oakland 14-6 in the match, including 10-2 in the second half. 
– Oakland won the corner battle, 7-5. 
– NKU goalkeeper Megan Gessner picked up another clean sheet with a pair of saves.
