Gherezgher’s 30-piece not enough as Norse drop road contest to Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio – Northern Kentucky University Norse men's basketball took on Wright State on Saturday, as the Norse looked to improve their Horizon League standing after posting a 6-4 record through the first half of league play. The Norse led early, but after Wright State took a lead five minutes in, they jumped out to a double-digit lead and led for the remainder of the game, despite a great individual effort from Dan Gherezgher.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– Northern Kentucky shot 55.2% from the field, but just 5-21 from behind the arc in the game. Wright State comparatively shot 50.0% but 5-14 from deep. Both teams pounded the paint, with NKU scoring 52 points in the paint to Wright State's 44. The Norse shot 11-16 from the line while the Raiders went 29-36 on their freebie attempts, and shot 28 of their 36 attempts in the second half. 
– NKU lost the rebound battle 33-26, including 12-8 on the offensive glass. No Norse player posted more than five rebounds in the game. Wright State had 11 second-chance points in the game. 
– Wright State also won the turnover battle, forcing NKU into 14 turnovers while only recording 10. The Raiders recorded 21 points off those Norse turnovers. 11 of NKU's turnovers came in the first half. 
Dan Gherezgher led NKU with 30 points on great efficiency, shooting 12-17 from the field (8-9 on twos, 4-8 on threes). He also grabbed three rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. His 30 points marked a career-high, as did his 12 made field goals. 
LJ Wells had 14 points on 5-7 shooting, but recorded a season-low three rebounds. 
Donovan Oday dropped 14 off the bench, also grabbing four rebounds. 
Tae Dozier had ten points, five rebounds, and a pair of steals. 
Shawn Nelson played a season-high 22 minutes, recording six points and two rebounds.

– NKU heads up to Michigan next weekend, taking on Detroit Mercy on January 30 and Oakland on February 1.
