Softball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Northern Kentucky University Norse softball battled against Bryant and Monmouth on Saturday, after taking a pair of losses the day prior. The Norse saw a slow start with a loss to Bryant in Saturday's opener, but bounced back against Monmouth in the second game. 

THE BASICS - GAME ONE
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 1, Bryant – 3
LOCATION: Anderson Stadium - Chapel Hill, N.C.
RECORDS: NKU: 3-4 | BU: 4-4
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Bryant took a first-inning lead and never trailed, as NKU equalized in the third but gave up a pair of runs in the sixth as they fell, 3-1.
- NKU recorded three hits and three walks while giving up five Bryant hits and five Bryant walks. 
- Makaree Chapman pitched the full game for the Norse, allowing three earned runs while striking out seven. She also drew a walk at the plate.
- Mack Brow, Kenzie Gulley, and Jena Rhoads were the only Norse to record hits, all singles.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- NKU took a second-inning lead before the Hawks equalized in the third. The one-all score held until the fifth, when the Norse put up four runs, and added an insurance run in the sixth to take home a 6-1 victory. 
- Alicia Flores threw a complete game in the circle, giving up five hits, one run, and one walk while striking out three. She threw just 97 pitches in her seven innings of work. 
- Makaree Chapman had a great game at the plate for the Norse, going 2-2 with a home run and a double, plating three runs while crossing home plate twice. 
- Brielle DiMemmo opened the scoring with a solo homer, her first of the season. She finished 3-3 at the plate with a pair of runs driven in. 
- Jena Rhoads finished 2-3 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. 

NEXT UP
NKU continues play in the Carolina Classic on Saturday, taking on Bryant at 10 AM and Monmouth at 5:30 PM.
