Baseball falls in midweek clash to Toledo

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball took on Toledo on Tuesday at home, as the Norse looked to bounce back from a tough road sweep at Florida State this past weekend. NKU hung in with the Rockets for most of the game, but allowed eight runs in the final two innings to fall by nine.

GAME SUMMARY
– Toledo scored a run in both of the second and third innings, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. NKU scored 3-2 in the third to take a short-lived lead, as the Rockets jumped right back in front with two runs in the fourth. After three scoreless innings, the Norse loaded the bases and couldn't get out of the jam, scoring a pair of runs on an RBI single before the inning ended. The Rockets put the game out of reach in the ninth with six runs on seven hits, sealing the deal for the Norse. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– Toledo's offense tallied 17 hits in 45 at-bats compared to just three in 29 at-bats for the Norse. Northern Kentucky threw nine pitchers in the game. 
– Pierce Bauerle finished 1-4 with two RBI. Ethan Thomas and Jackson Wang each finished 1-3 with a run scored.

UP NEXT
NKU is back home on Friday to open a series with Milwaukee to start Horizon League play.
