Baseball drops fifth-straight with conference opener loss to Milwaukee

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball opened up the Horizon League season on Friday afternoon, taking on the Milwaukee Panthers in a home clash. The Norse fell behind early and never led as they dropped the contest to the Panthers 16-9.

GAME SUMMARY
– Northern Kentucky fell in a 5-0 hole early, allowing five runs to cross in the second frame. NKU got one back in the second and one in the third, before scoring stalled until the sixth. The Panthers jumped out to a big lead in the sixth, an inning where they scored seven runs on six hits. The Norse started to claw back in the bottom half of the frame, as a double from Josh Williams and homer from Marcus Harrison put the Panther lead at seven. NKU got one back in the seventh and then made it a four-run ballgame in the eighth. Entering the top of the ninth at 13-9, the Norse gave up a walk and a hit batter before allowing a three-run home run, dooming the NKU's chances of a late comeback as they dropped the series opener 16-9. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– Milwaukee's offense went 16-38 at the plate with 12 walks on the day, racking up nine extra-base hits, including five home runs. NKU used six pitchers in the contest, all allowing at least one earned run. 
– The Northern Kentucky bats went 13-41 on the day with four walks and five extra-base hits, four of those being doubles. 
– Marcus Harrison finished 3-5 at the plate with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. 
– Josh Williams went 2-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored. 
– Pierce Bauerle and Jake Paulick each tallied multiple hits and multiple runs scored on the day.
