Baseball drops series finale with Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball wrapped up its second Horizon League series of the 2026 season on Sunday, taking on Oakland. After taking the first two games of the series, the Norse fell in the series finale, 4-8.

GAME SUMMARY
Jake Paulick's two-run homer in the top of the first gave the Norse their only lead of the game, as the Norse then gave up eight unanswered runs, including three in the first inning. NKU went scoreless from the second inning until they put up a pair in the ninth. Down 2-8 entering the final frame, NKU quickly loaded the bases before Paulick brought a pair of runs home, but a strikeout and double play saw the Golden Grizzlies salvage the series. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN 
Elijah Green started on the mound and allowed six runs in four innings as he fell to 0-2 on the season. He was relieved by Ryan Gill in the fifth, who allowed four baserunners but no runs in 2.2 innings of work. Cody Little finished off the game with 1.1 innings of two-run ball. 
– NKU's offense tallied ten hits in 33 at-bats, drawing five walks and three HBPs, but left nine runners on base in the contest. 
Jake Paulick had one of his best games of his career, finishing 4-5 with a homer, driving in all four Norse runs on the day. His four hits marked a new career best for the Centerville, Ohio native, who's now batting .348 on the season. 
Jackson Wang had a solid day from the leadoff spot, reaching base three times while scoring twice and stealing a base. 
Pierce Bauerle finished 1-3 with a pair of walks in the contest.
