Baseball falls to Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball took on Bellarmine in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, coming off a Horizon League series victory at Oakland last weekend. The Norse led for seven innings, but the Knights tied it in the eighth and won the game on a walk-off in the ninth to send NKU home.

GAME SUMMARY
– Northern Kentucky started things off with a pair of singles from Jackson Wang and Mark Nowak, who were quickly brought home by Jake Paulick's home run, his sixth of the season. The Knights got a pair of runs back in the bottom half of the frame, and scoring held until the fourth. In the fourth inning, the Norse scored a pair on an RBI double from Ethan Thomas, before he made it a 6-2 game on a double steal. Again, the Knights got two back in the bottom half, making it 6-4. That score held until the bottom of the eighth, where a two-RBI single tied the game, and a late RBI single in the ninth saw the Knights walk off the Norse. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN 
– The Norse threw six pitchers in the contest, as Tannis Lange got the start and threw two innings, allowing one earned run with a pair of strikeouts. Ryan Gill relieved Lange in the third and allowed a pair of runs in two innings. MJ Castaneda then threw the fifth & sixth innings, and allowed no runs while striking out three batters. Kyle Cortner (0.2 IP, 0 ER) & Gannon Wentz (0.2 IP, 2 ER) then followed, and Gabe Stout was saddled with the loss after allowing the winning run. 
– NKU's offense tallied six hits in 30 at-bats, drawing six walks. 
Pierce Bauerle finished 2-3 with a run scored. 
Jake Paulick batted 1-3 with a three-run homer and a walk. 
Ethan Thomas finished 1-4 with a two-run double.

NKU is back home this weekend, taking on Youngstown State for the Norse's third Horizon League series of the season.
