Norse seal series sweep of Penguins with 5-4 victory

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball finished up the series with Youngstown State on Sunday, battling the Penguins after taking the first two games earlier in the weekend. After a pair of extra-inning victories, the Norse closed out game three in nine, behind a solid team pitching performance and some timely hitting.

GAME SUMMARY
– Youngstown led early for the third-straight game, taking a 2-0 lead on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly. The Norse tied it up in the third on a RBI singles from Pierce Bauerle and Josh Williams. The tie held until the sixth, where the Norse scored on a wild pitch, before the Penguins did the same in the seventh to tie the game at three. In the bottom of the seventh, 
NKU loaded the bases and scored a pair of runs on a wild pitch and an RBI single. YSU got one back in the eighth, and shut the Penguins out in the ninth despite having runners in scoring position. 

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– NKU threw five pitchers, with Elijah Green getting the start on the mound. He threw five innings of two-run ball, allowing two hits and four walks while striking out six batters. 
Tannis Lange pitched the sixth and seventh, and earned the win as he allowed just one run, one walk, and one hit while striking out two batters. Gabe Stout pitched the eighth, allowing one run and two hits. Ryan Gill got the first two outs in the ninth before Jared Teke relieved him, coaxing a flyout for the save. 
– At the plate, NKU finished the day 6-30 with six walks and five HBPs. Josh Williams led the way with a 2-3 day, drawing a walk & an HBP, batting in a run and scoring once. 
Jackson Wang finished the day 1-4 with a double, a walk, and a run scored. 
Pierce Bauerle finished 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored while getting plunked twice. 
Ethan Thomas delivered the would-be game winner, finishing the day 1-3 with an RBI single.
