Norse drop home contest to Bellarmine

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball took on Bellarmine on Tuesday afternoon, looking to get revenge on the Knights after dropping the road contest from a week prior. NKU again fell in a high-scoring affair, losing the game 15-12.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky - 12, Bellarmine - 15
LOCATION: Bill Aker Baseball Complex - Highland Heights, Ky.
RECORDS: Northern Kentucky: 13-14 (6-3 HL) | Bellarmine: 11-16 (4-5 ASUN)

GAME SUMMARY
– Both teams' offense started red-hot, as each team plated seven runs through two innings. A solo home run from Bellarmine in the third made it 8-7 Knights before they extended their lead in the fifth with a pair of runs. The Norse tied it up in the fifth with doubles from Nolan Sparks and Mark Nowak, before the Knights responded with four in the sixth, taking a lead they did not relinquish. NKU got a pair back in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but it was too little, too late for the Norse as they fell 15-12.

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– The Norse threw nine pitchers in the contest, as three (MJ Castaneda, Carson French, and Maret Drye) threw 1.2 innings, marking the longest outings for the Norse. Drye closed out the game and fanned four batters while not allowing a run. Shawn Parnell was saddled with the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season after giving up the Knights' lead-taking run in the sixth.
– Northern Kentucky's offense tallied nine hits in 33 at-bats while drawing 11 walks.
Mark Nowak put up an absurd final line, finishing 3-4 from the plate with three doubles, five RBI, two runs scored, and two walks. Nowak stole four bases in the contest, which marked a new single-game high for the Norse since the squad joined Division I.
Josh Williams finished 1-3 with a three-run homer and a walk.
Jake Paulick batted 1-3 with a double, two walks, and a run scored.
