DAYTON, Ohio – Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball started its weekend series with Wright State on Thursday, taking on the Raiders for the first of three. The Norse offense took a five-nothing lead in the third, but then went cold late as they dropped the game 9-5.

GAME SUMMARY
– After a scoreless pair of innings kicked things off, the Norse offense got going in the third, as Northern Kentucky drew a one-out walk followed by three-straight singles, putting a run on the board and loading the bases for Norse catcher
Jake Paulick, who pulled a deep fly ball to give NKU a 5-0 lead. The Raiders got three back in the third on two hits and two walks, before scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth to make it 5-4. NKU wouldn't get a base hit for the rest of the contest as Wright State took a lead in the fifth and tacked on a few more in the seventh and eighth to open the series with a 9-5 victory.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
– NKU threw four pitchers over eight innings, as
Logan Wilson led the way, allowing four runs and eight baserunners over three innings.
Gannon Wentz relieved him in the fourth and allowed a pair of unearned runs while striking out a pair of batters over as many innings.
Gerald Hanson (1.2 IP, 2 ER) and
Jared Teke (1.1 IP, 1 ER) finished off the game for the Norse.
– At the plate, NKU totaled four hits in 31 at-bats while drawing four walks.
– Northern Kentucky's only extra-base hit in the contest came in the form of
Jake Paulick's grand slam, marking his seventh long ball of the season as he finished 1-4 from the plate.

Marcus Harrison (2 BB) were the only Norse to reach base twice in the game.
